REASON FOR SURVEY
Due to the threat of a 34% increase in Traffic on an already well used road (further details below) the vehicle driving residents of East Broyle fear that safely turning out into St Pauls road to access Sherborne road and the A27 or to go to the hamlets and villages to the west, at present very difficult, will become an impossiblity.
METHOD
All 410 households on East Broyle, expect those, whose neutrality was assumed, 3 councillors and the Chair of the Residents Association (membership 56%), were given a simple questionnaire by two concerned residents of East Broyle.
RESULT
Of the 406 households
38% want there to be a Roundabout at the St Pauls Road, Norwich Rd, Sherborne Road junction.
17% also want a meeting to hear of all proposals for changes to roads as part of the development.
Under 1 % want a meeting before deciding on the question of a roundabout.
No one wanted the developer's proposals.
Comments made during the survey, along with the thanks for running it, were summarised as "There is concern at the lack of communication and positive action in the face of the challenges posed by the development of Whitehouse farm, even from those with no knowledge of the extensive communication and proactive stance adopted by neighbouring Residents' Associations."
TRAFFIC LIGHTS were suggested as an equal or perhaps better option by a number of respondants. If used they must be smart and not bring long delays to traffic exiting Norwich Road or Sherborne road.
Users of vehicles leaving SHERBORNE ROAD or turning into it from the west were not surveyed, however they would gain greatly from a roundabout or traffic lights at the junction, as would the parents of children at JESSIE YOUNGHUSBAND SCHOOL who use Norwich road to drop off and collect their children.

INCREASING TRAFFIC IN CHICHESTER
Over the last 50 years St Pauls road, a residential, 18c rural road leading out of the market town of Chichester to the North West has seen a roughly expotential rise in traffic as it has become part of the linear route, starting at Common Road, north of Emsworth and following other rural roads through Funington and West Ashling into St Pauls Road.
Any opportunity to deter through traffic on rural roads, such as when the new Havant to Chichester section of the A27 was planned
has not been taken and the 2017 Chichester Road Space Audit by Parsons Brinckerhoff, part of WSP, for West Sussex County Council found the
following volumes at peak times on roads used to access Chichester.
With the traffic from the 750 new dwellings at Whitehouse farm added, the In traffic will raise to 1000 and the Out traffic will go up to 950.
